An exhibit to remember…then maybe forget

There are museums that make you go “ahhhh!” and then there are museums that make you go “aggghhh!”

I was cruising around the Travel Channel discussion forums the other day, checking out their recommendations for museums with peculiar collections (I have a particular weakness for quirky, offbeat museums), and stumbled across a description of the Icelandic Phallological Museum in Husavik, Iceland. On behalf of my male friends and brothers the world over, let me just say, “oooowwww!”

It seems the museum is looking to situate itself as a unique place for “individuals to undertake serious study into the field of phallology (not to be confused with ‘philology,’ although I suspect most of the specimen donors would prefer it were that field instead) in an organized, scientific fashion.”

Okay. So I’m certain that it is a truly amazing collection of…well…collectibles, but…oh my! A stroll through a doily museum it’s not. Probably best to send granny and the kids elsewhere, unless of course, you want to walk through the collection with furious blushing on one side of you, and uncontrollable giggling on the other. Dare I even speculate what the museum gift shop might feature? Now there’s a postcard to send to the relatives.
